Dan Andrews complained that the Vic government had given Netball Australia $15 million after Gina Rinehart pulled out

 Victorian Prime Minister Daniel Andrews has been criticized for giving $15 million in taxpayer money to Netball Australia after his previous sponsorship deal collapsed.

The top sports body was Andrews was rescued from financial ruin after billionaire Gina Rinehart withdrew a $15 million sponsorship through her company Hancock Prospecting.

Indigenous player Donnell Wallam expressed concern about wearing the company logo on her uniform for her debut international match against England. This was because in 1984 Mrs. Rinehart’s father, Lang Hancock, spoke in an interview about sterilizing Aboriginal communities by “baptizing” their water supply.

Mr Andrews came under fire on Facebook almost immediately after Monday’s announcement – many looked cynically at the intervention ahead of the state election on Saturday, November 26.

Andrews described the deal as a coup.
